How it started ➡️ How it’s going…

🪵📚 What began as a simple challenge turned into an incredible lesson in teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance!

These 5th grade Panthers set a goal to build a KEVA plank tower taller than Mr. Little (who is over 6 feet tall!) — and they did it! 🎉
Next challenge? Reach the library ceiling!

Along the way, they discovered their tower wasn’t stable enough, so they did what great engineers do:
🔍 Researched
🧠 Tested new designs
🤝 Worked together

They even studied the design used for the Guinness World Record tallest KEVA plank tower to improve stability.

Swipe through to see the progression — from first builds to record-inspired engineering. We are so proud of their creativity, collaboration, and curiosity! 🚀

Our 3rd-grade team engaged students in a Defined Learning problem-based learning unit focused on innovation, collaboration, and risk-taking. Students researched various natural disasters and explored strategies for keeping people safe during these events. Working collaboratively in design teams, they brainstormed, designed, labeled, and planned a prototype for a safety shelter tailored to the specific natural disaster they selected. Using recycled materials, students then constructed their prototypes and created advertisements to showcase and present their inventions. This hands-on, highly collaborative learning experience strengthened critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork skills while reinforcing our learner characteristics through authentic, real-world application.

Thanks to our students' hard work raising $50,000 during our Boosterthon fundraiser, Team 66 treated our Panthers to an assembly with champion BMX bike rider Matt Wilhelm. Thanks to a PV parent, we were able to get NBC5 news to cover it. Bravo, Panthers and Team66!!

Veterans Day is a special one at Prairieview. It's not every day that we get the opportunity to celebrate and learn from so many American heroes. Thank you to the 23 Veterans who took the time to visit our school today for this celebration. Also, thank you to Ms. Lindsey and her choir for the incredible performance. Four 5th-grade students - Lydia, Scarlette, Fiona, & Mostafa - wrote and shared very special speeches on "What a Veteran Means to Me." Thank you all for a great day, and to all Veterans for their service!

This week, our 4th-grade teachers took their students to "learn in the field" as guest scientists at Fermilab! This program focuses on forces and energy, and utilizes hands-on learning to engage our students in science. Thank you to our parent volunteers, but also to the 4th-grade teachers, as this trip required training on their part. Their dedication to student engagement and hands-on learning is vital to growing our students!
